SS 316L Tube:
All tube is welded seamed austenitic Cr-Ni-Mo stainless steel AISI 316L according to standard UNI EN 10088. All stainless steel tube is supplied in 6 metre lengths.
The CHIBRO Press Fitting System requires a particular tube which is not replaceable with any other stainless steel tube. The tube supplied has a premium polished finished surface in order to cope with demanding hygienic standards and to better withstand corrosion. The tubes mechanical characteristics make it easy to work, safe and enduring in operation.
The key steps undertaken during the manufacturing process of the tube is a longitudinal electro-weld in neutral atmosphere and then externally ground to a smooth finish. All tubes are checked with the eddy current system applying the procedures S.E.P. 1914 and S.E.P. 1925. Dimensional tolerances of the tube conform to EN 10312 standard.
All tubes are marked with indelible inks that provide details of the producer, item number, material, dimensions and batch along the whole length.

Fittings:
Fittings are made from austenitic Cr-Ni-Mo stainless steel 316L tube by means of cold forming.
Welding of fittings, where necessary during manufacturing, is completed by automatic welding machines operated by certified personnel.
Once the fittings are made to shape a solution and heat treatment is carried out. This is followed by the insertion of the o-ring and marking with a laser system to identify the item number, the manufacturer, the date of manufacture and the O.D. of the tube to be inserted. Each fitting has a toroidal groove with an “O” ring installed.
Pressing Tool
The tooling is a simple battery/electric product that is used in conjunction with a set of interchangeable jaws according to the diameter of pipe to be coupled.
When the tool is in operation the jaws generate an automatic controlled deformation of the fitting and pipe to form a permanent watertight joint. The technical data of tools and their operating instructions are provided in the relevant catalogue on request.
How it works
Tube is simply cut to the length required, de-burred and the fitting of choice is simply slipped onto the tube until it reaches the stop. The fitting is then pressed onto tube via the use of the pressing tool with the correct “jaw” attached. This creates a water and gas tight seal in a few seconds.
The water tightness is produced by the compression of the “O” ring within the fitting with mechanical strength being achieved via the slight deformation of the fitting and tube. Please read manufacturer’s catalogue and brochure for more detail.
Thermal Expansion
Tubes and fittings are always subject to temperature variations which at times can be significant. This produces an expansion of the tube that is particularly evident on straight pipe lines. The expansion coefficient of AISI 316 L stainless steel in the range of temperature from +20C up to +200C is 16.5 x 10-6/K.
